Starting in 2019 and for several years afterwards, Carrollton Exports (CEX), a sister company to Carrollton, and Preble-Rish Haiti worked together to import Asphalt, Fuel Oil, Gasoline, Diesel and Jet Fuel. Carrollton provided all of the technical capabilities supporting this effort.
At Scale Logistics Operations
With many deliveries happening, being scheduled, updated or even canceled constantly, the systems needed to be robust and capable of changing on a minutes notice. In addition, end-customers in Haiti needed to be able to know where vessels were at any given time. By leveraging integrations with tools such as MarineTraffic, Carrollton was able to solve for this problem.
This integrated tracking helped coordinate voyage and project tracking for both Chartered and Contracted vessels. By integrating across all voyages it became possible to provide Ships Agents, Testing companies and other parties of very close estimates of arrivals, departures and other needs.
Integrated Testing, Pricing, Accounting and Project Tracking
We integrated with several testing companies (Ampsec, SGS, etc) to enable quick absorption of testing data into Voyage trackers. Carrollton also integrated automated pricing information coming from S&P/Platts. This enabled quick turn-around on estimating the pricing needed to maintain margins for various product lines. Lastly we integrated the Voyage and Project tracking information into the Accounting system to enable real-time invoicing, true-ups on quantities, bunkering costs and other voyage-specific reporting and data needs.
New Market Challenges and Legal Issues
Carrollton’s work in this area extended out from the first market, Haiti, into several other markets, with voyages going to the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico and others. We built on the same system of Project Tracking, Voyage, Pricing and Accounting integrations to keep voyages and projects on target.
When there were legal issues, including one case that went for over two years, the record systems, project tracking and other data points were audited, tested repeatedly by opposing counsels, etc and found to be accurate and helped secure settlements and positive outcomes.
